March 2007 On March 10th, we honored six Ethiopian women immigrants in the Washington Metropolitan area who are successful in their line of work and also have contributed to the Ethiopian community. The honoring ceremony took place on March 10, 2007 at Gwendolyn Coffield Community Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. |

June 2006 Two EWPD members participated at World Peace Forum 2006 which was held in Vancouver Canada from June 23 to June 28, 2006. There were about 3000 delegates from 90 countries at the conference. The Voice of America, Amharic Service covered the participation of the members of EWPD and other African delegates in its broadcast on June29, 2006. The two EWPD members attended were interviewed. On June 27, 2006, Mrs. Anna Gomez, member of the European Parliament and head of the European parliament observers of the May 15, elections in Ethiopia, gave a speech to a large Ethiopian audience in Washington, DC. One of our members was among those civic organization leaders who welcomed her at the gathering.
May 2006 EWPDA issued a press release on the newly formed Alliance for Freedom and Democracy. Please see the press release in the press release section of our website.
April 4 2006 EWPD member gave briefings to the staff of the Congressional Ethiopia Caucus at the US Congress. The briefing was on EWPD and its activities on peace and development and on the current situation in Ethiopia.
March 8 2006 – International Women’s Day Women around the world are commemorating International Women’s Day on March 8th. On that date, Ethiopian Women for Peace &Development (formerly known as Ethiopian Women for Peace, Development and Humanitarian Aid (EWPDHA) held candlelight vigils to show its solidarity with women in Ethiopia who are struggling for the respect of their human rights. The candlelight vigils was held in front of the Whitehouse at Lafayette Park (Washington, DC) at 5:30 p.m. Please see a copy of a letter from Congressman Michael Honda to the Congress about our candlelight vigil. |
